Gender Equality Scheme
This is Warrington Borough Council’s Gender Equality Scheme for 2007 - 2010. The council is fully committed to eliminating gender inequality and promoting equality, and this Scheme provides the council with an ideal opportunity to bring together and prioritise issues important for women, men, girls and boys.
We recognise that there are gender differences in people’s life chances, what services they gain access to, the types of jobs they do and how well pupils achieve at school. We also know that other equality issues such as race, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age also affect people’s lives and that a “one size fits all” approach is not the answer.
In the Scheme, we:
- Show how we intend to mainstream gender equality in all areas of the council’s work
- Set out our priorities on how we intend to tackle gender inequality, eliminate discrimination and harassment and promote equality of opportunity between women and men, boys and girls
This scheme will be reviewed annually by the council and will be subject to consultation with stakeholders and the community.
