In-Year Admissions and Transferring your Child from one school to another

There are many reasons a child may need to move from one school to another during the school year.  Whether it is because your child is having problems at their current school or if you are moving to a new area, you are entitled to this transfer if you feel it is necessary.

Whenever possible, it is better for transfers to take place at the beginning of a term.

Some things to consider…

  • Think carefully because a transfer causes an unnecessary break in your child’s education
  • Problems that your child may be experiencing may not go away simply because they have changed schools

How to arrange a transfer
You may wish to visit the schools you are interested in applying to - please contact the schools direct to arrange a visit.

You should contact the Admissions Team who will tell you if the school has any spare places in the relevant year group and they will send you an admission form to complete. You may also collect an admission form from the school if you are visiting the school. You can print a form by clicking the following link:

In-year admissions and transfers - common application form  (for use by Warrington residents only)

If you are not resident within the Warrington borough you will need to obtain an in-year application form from your home local authority (the local authority you pay your council tax to).  You can state preferences for Warrington schools on this form.  You must complete and return this form to your home local authority who will pass your request for a place onto the Warrington Admissions Team.

If the school you prefer is a community school, the Admissions Team will deal with your application on behalf of the Local Authority.

If the school you prefer is a church aided school, the Admissions Team will refer your application to the school's Governing Body who will decide if your child can be admitted in the school.

Appeals
You are not guaranteed a place at the school of your preference because all schools have a limit to the number of children they can admit.

If the school is full in the year group where you would like a place for your child, your application will be refused, but you do have the right to appeal.  Please see Admission Appeals.

Children with statements of special needs
If your child has a statement of special needs you should contact the Inclusion Services Team on 01925 442908 for advice.
