Our performance

All councils with social services responsibilities have to make sure that local people have information about the services which are provided. This includes statistical information, which the government use to give an overview of social services performance and which they use to compare social services across councils. It also helps the government and inspection bodies decide whether we are providing good quality services that give value for money and making the best use of the resources that are available.

We also use performance information to help identify where we are doing well and where we should be focussing efforts to improve. We need timely and accurate data in order to make management decisions that ensure the best services for users. This information can take many forms.

In Warrington we regularly conduct surveys to gather information directly from the people who use our services. We also use information from our IT systems to calculate the average costs of services, the numbers of people receiving services and how quickly we respond to them. We also use information from other councils and census data to give a clearer picture of how we compare with others across the country and over time.

Councils are awarded a star rating for adult social care services. In 2007-08 Warrington was awarded three stars (out of a possible three), for its adult social services and was found to be delivering good outcomes with excellent capacity for improvement. Children's services are measured separately through an annual performance assessment that assesses all aspects of services provides to children.
