Home Repairs Assistance

 

What is Home Repairs Assistance?

This is a small grant to enable qualifying householders to carry out emergency repairs to their homes.

What type of work is included?

Emergency repair work, such as: 

  • Dangerous electrical wiring
  • Unsafe gas boiler
  • Leaking roof
  • Badly rotten doors and windows
  • Leaking plumbing

Who can apply?

This grant, subject to funding being available, is one of a number of grants offered by the Urban Renewal Section as part of Home Repairs Assistance. It is targeted at householders who are 60 years or older and  who are in receipt of one of the following qualifying benefits: 

  • Income Support
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Working Families Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Disabled Person’s Tax Credit   

Council Tenants 

You cannot apply for this grant if you are a Council tenant.  However if you are a Council tenant and have concerns about disrepair please contact Property Connect on 0800 252627 where a Customer Services Advisor will make arrangements for a surveyor to visit you and consider your requests.

How much is the grant?

The maximum amount of grant available is £5,000. Provided that your estimates are reasonable, the full cost of the work will be covered by the grant.

Who chooses the contractor?

You do. You will need to complete an application form and submit it to the Council, together with 2 estimates for the agreed work. However you must not instruct the contractor to start the work until you have received a formal Grant Approval.

Can anyone help me with my application? 

Yes. The Urban Renewal Grant Liaison Officer can help you to complete the form. 

Alternatively, Care and Repair (Warrington) can act as your agent and help you complete the application form and obtain estimates. They charge a small fee for this service, which can be claimed as part of the grant.
