A49 junction improvement works
Major improvement works are proposed to start later in 2010 at the junction of the A49 Winwick Road / A50 Long Lane / Hawley's Lane roundabout. View the leaflet.
The scheme will involve:
- removal of the roundabout and replacement with a traffic signal crossroads junction
- widening of the A50 Long Lane approach
- creation of right turn lanes on both A49 Winwick Road approaches
- relocation of bus stops on Winwick Road
- closure of the access from A49 Winwick Road to Densham Avenue to both reduce traffic and allow a left turn lane to the A50 Long Lane
The benefits:
- reduced traffic congestion
- improved pedestrian crossings
- on and off road improvements to encourage cycling
- reduction of traffic on alternative routes
- more reliable bus services
- enhanced landscaping around the junction
Various temporary traffic restrictions will be in place to allow for the works, however, the council will make every effort to minimise disruption to traffic. The works will be co-ordinated with those required to construct the access to the Orford Park development. Work will be restricted to off peak traffic periods with some works taking place between 7pm and 5am, where some temporary road closures will be required.
These works are expected to take approximately six months.
