Short break home

The short break home in Warrington is called Ross Close. It provides overnight stays for children and young people between the ages of eight and seventeen who have a severe learning disability

The home is a double bungalow and is located in the Old Hall area of Warrington. It offers children and young people the opportunity to develop friendships and allows parents and carers to have a break from caring.

Ross Close is an essential resource to support children and their families…

Many of the children we care for have brothers and sisters who do not have a disability.  It is common for parents to allow their disabled child to stay at Ross Close so that they can spend quality time with their other children. Some parents just need the occasional overnight so that they can have a restful night’s sleep.

Quality care

Ross Close is registered with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). Ofsted inspect the home on a twice yearly basis to make sure it is complying with regulations and is meeting the National Minimum Standards.

Contact us

If you have a child with a severe learning disability and you would like to know how to access the service, ask the Lead Professional involved with your child or telephone the Access to Social Care team (ASC team) on 01925 444239

Medication

Ross Close staff are trained to administer medication that your child may need.

Religious and cultural needs

If your child usually visits a place of worship and you wish them to attend during their stay with us we will do our best to facilitate this.

The service employs two cooks who are able to provide meals to meet your child’s dietary requirements arising from any religious or cultural needs.

Clothes and toiletries

We cannot provide toiletries or personal care items for children and young people so you will need to ensure that your child brings them with them.

Review meetings

Children and young people staying at Ross Close will have a care plan completed by a social worker.  The care plan will be reviewed, at a review meeting, on a six monthly basis, or sometimes more frequently.

Staff at the short break home

The home employs over twenty people.  The Registered Manager, supported by the deputy manager, is responsible for the day-to-day running of the home.  The number of staff present, on any day, is dependent on the number of children staying.

During the night, a staff member stays awake in case a child wakes and needs support.  There is always an extra person sleeping in the home who can offer support to the waking night member of staff, if needed.

Keyworkers

Each child who stays at Ross Close will have a keyworker allocated to them.  They will help parents with the care plan for their child. Parents are encouraged to keep in regular contact with their child’s keyworker to ensure that the home has up-to-date information about their child.

Bookings

Bookings are arranged on a six monthly basis.  Requests for an increase in provision should be made to your child’s social worker.
