Admission to nursery school

The admission of your child to nursery education is a very important step.

Nursery education provides an excellent opportunity for your children to expand their world and increase their learning opportunities.  Warrington's children and young people's services has excellent provision in all early years settings.

Warrington Borough Council directly maintains one nursery school and 27 nursery classes attached to a variety of primary schools.

A child usually attends a maintained nursery for 12 months (three terms) prior to the year in which they start the reception class.  In some cases places are available for longer and a child may be offered a place from the term following their third birthday, enabling them to have four or five terms of nursery education.

For admissions to Nursery School/Nursery Classes in September 2012 applications will be considered first from parents of children born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009 (reaching their 4th birthday between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013).'

Nursery schools run by voluntary or private groups

As well as nursery places in schools the local authority also offers grants to provide free nursery education in pre-schools and nurseries operated by voluntary or private groups.

If you wish to apply to one of these private providers for a place for your child you should contact the nursery direct.  You should NOT complete the local authority form.

Alternatively parents may wish to contact the families' information service on 01925 443131 for advice and guidance on the type of nursery place to best suit their needs.
