Communication with children and young people

Listening to children, young people and families helps us to develop our services for the better. We regularly ask for local opinons and suggestions in many different ways such as through surveys and questionnaires in schools and colleges, discussion in youth groups and through special forums.

Here are some of the groups where we regularly ask for feedback from children and young people:

  • IMPACT (Warrington Youth Council)
  • Area youth forums
  • Connexions
  • School councils
  • Children in Care Council
  • RISE’ – young care leavers group and football team
  • ‘Oi Listen’ – self advocacy group for young disabled people
  • Youth summits

We also listen to parents and provide information about the work we’re doing through:

  • Open evenings at schools and colleges
  • Children’s Centres Parent Forums and Advisory Boards
  • Parents and carers forum
  • Adopters’ newsletter
  • Parents and carers of disabled children forum
  • School newsletters
  • Our website

We also value the opinions of the people who work with children, young people and families - 'The children's workforce' and have many networks of communication to provide and receive information such as:

  • Our website
  • Directory of services for children and young people
  • School news (a newsletter for school staff and governors)
  • Head teacher and governor forums, conferences
  • Professional communications networks

We’d like to hear from you about ways in which we can improve services for the children and young people in Warrington. To do so please visit our comment, compliments and complaints page.

Participation and Engagement Strategy

The Participation and Engagement Strategy 2011-2013 ensures there are appropriate mechanisms in place across all of our service areas to understand the needs of service users, and involve them effectively in  planning and reviewing services to ensure they meet their needs.  The strategy sets out a shared set of principles to underpin all participation activity and ensure the voice of children, young people and families is heard.  It also develops arrangements for mapping and reviewing participation activity and developing a forward look to facilitate shared resources and avoid duplication.
