Youth council - IMPACT

Warrington Youth Council (IMPACT) is a youth forum made up of young people who want to have a say in how the town and services on offer can improve for them.

Who can attend?
Any young person aged between 13 -19 who lives or attends school within Warrington can attend the youth council meetings. The elected members of youth parliament and their deputies attend every meeting to share the views of their constituents.

When are the meetings?
Warrington youth council meetings are every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm.  They are held in the conference room at New Town House, Buttermarket Street.  Youth Workers support the meetings which are chaired and ran by young people.

Warrington youth council members regularly meet with both Kath O'Dwyer, the Executive Director for children and young people's services, and lead Councilors where they are able to put their ideas and view across, and to take feedback from their recommendations.

What does the group do?
Warrington youth council is an action group. They have previously looked at issues affecting young people such as accessible and affordable public transport, bullying, recycling in schools and the council’s budget.

The strong influence of Warrington youth council was demonstrated in January 2007 when the group met with former head of children’s services, Norma Cadwallader, and an executive council member about the intended 100 per cent increase of transport fares in Warrington.  The Warrington youth council group managed to negotiate a 50 per cent rise instead.

Warrington youth council members are even asked to interview candidates applying for important jobs at the council.

IMPACT produce a manifesto setting out what young people would like to change in Warrington. For a copy, or for further information about the next meeting, please contact the youth support service participation team.
