The Council
The Council is made up of 57 elected members, known as councillors, who each represent one of the 22 wards within Warrington.
Some wards have more than one councillor serving them and the number of seats within individual wards varies depending on the area and population served. The borough has 14 three-member wards, seven two-member wards and one single-member ward.

Following the May 2012 elections, the breakdown of seats is:
- Conservative - 4
- Labour - 41
- Liberal Democrat - 12
