Honorary freemen

The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour that a council can Honorary freeman list
award. 

The following have received this honour:

Mrs V I Edwards was granted Freedom of the Borough in recognition of her eminent services to the borough of Warrington in October 1997.

Mr JS Gartside OBE JP DL BSc (Hons) BPhil - 10 December 2004

The Lord Hoyle - 11 November 2005

The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment (QLR) were given Freedom of the Borough on 17 September 1947.  In July 2006, the QLR became the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's and Borders).  As such, the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment has been given permission to march through the streets of Warrington drums beating, bands playing colours flying and bayonets fixed.
