Born and raised in the borough, Cllr Steve Wright is the 129th Mayor and first citizen of Warrington.
He was born and attended school in Warrington. He started his working life as an apprentice plasterer before going on to be a process worker.
Steve and his wife Julie were married at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latchford where they live and have five children: Michelle, Dawn, Stephen, Paul and Thomas. They have seven wonderful grandchildren too.
Steve’s passion is community activism and helping people. He is keen on working with local people towards shared goals.
He is a dedicated volunteer and his roles have included volunteer tutor at Warrington Collegiate and he is a parishioner of Blessed John Henry
Newman Parish.
Steve has held a number of positions in both community and political groups. He currently works as the coordinator at St Margaret’s Latchford Community Hub.
Steve is active in the public sector trade union Unison and the Labour and Cooperative parties.
He was elected to Warrington Borough Council in May 2006 to represent Latchford East and has sat on a number of committees since that date.
Steve has been a governor at local schools for many years and is now a governor at both St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School and at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School in Warrington.
Outside his work with community groups and the council, Steve enjoys spending his free time with his family and walking and cycling.
