Warrington’s bid to host an international team to stay and train in the town and for The Halliwell Jones Stadium to host a number of group game matches started in early 2011.
Rugby league is more than just a spectator sport in Warrington, it’s something the whole borough is passionate about. Hosting the tournament would not only put Warrington on the map, but would also be a great chance for us to play a vital role in making the 2013 Rugby League World Cup the best of all time.
The local bid is a partnership between Warrington Borough Council, Warrington Wolves RLFC, Warrington Wolves Foundation, University of Chester, Marketing Cheshire and Virgin Trains.
