Dogs must be kept on a lead in designated areas for the safety and comfort of the dog and other park users. Staff have the authority to insist dog owners put their dog on a lead when instructed if the dog is deemed dangerous or a nuisance, and can issue fixed penalties to any dog owner who breaks the law and refuses to pick their dogs mess.
Dogs must be kept on a lead and walked round pitches rather than walked over them. This will reduce dog mess in these areas, making the pitches safer and cleaner for sports teams and recreational play.
These measures have been brought in to complement the fouling of land act, where dog owners will get fined for not picking up dog mess. On the park is a specially designed dog area with a four foot fence and self closing gates. In this one hectare area, dogs are allowed to be exercised off their leads. It is still important that owners pick up after their dog as the fines are still applicable in this area too.

The Orford Park Project is a unique £30m project and is widely regarded as an example of best practice in promoting joint service delivery, health and wellbeing, community safety, sustainable communities, lifelong learning and social and economic regeneration.
Over 20 national, regional and local organisations are actively involved in the delivery of the scheme.
When it is finished the Orford Park community hub will provide top-class sport, health, education, leisure and community facilities including:
Library and ICT suites; community activity and meeting rooms; 14-19 diploma centre; café; swimming pools; health and fitness suite; dance studios; squash courts; sports hall; crèche; three GP practices and a pharmacy.
The outdoor areas will house a network of walking and cycling paths around the new grass sports pitches; skateboarding and BMX cycle park; upgraded children’s play area; floodlit bowling greens and a new pavilion.
