Warrington has its own annual half marathon which is held in the autumn.

Founded in 2009, the Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon took place on Sunday 18 September 2011.

The English and Scottish national half marathon teams have previously used the Warrington race as a warm up event for competitions and have complemented the variety and pace of the route.

Several local charities and organisations are affiliated with the race including St Rocco's Hospice, the Foundation for Peace, Homestart, Newlove Warrington, Warrington Wolves Foundation and the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal.

If running is not your cup of tea, a legion of volunteers are needed each year to make the event a huge success. Keep an eye on the local media for more details next year.
