Roads in Fearnhead, Warrington are now re-opening following an earlier incident.
At 7.12am on Friday 10 February 2012, police received a report of an explosion at a house in Cinnamon Lane, Fearnhead. The house was extensively damaged by the explosion, and a structural engineer will be making an assessment around its safety later today.
A number of roads were closed to facilitate the work of the emergency services at the scene - these were Cinnamon Lane at the junctions with Enfield Park Road and Fearnhead Lane; and Parkfield Lane at the junction with Bromley Close. These roads will re-open shortly.
As a precautionary measure, four houses adjoining the affected property were evacuated.
The cause of the explosion is not yet confirmed, however gas engineers attended the scene following reports of a strong smell of gas. It is not being treated as suspicious.
The sole occupant of the affected house is a 92 year old woman. She was initially treated by ambulance at the scene, and then conveyed to Warrington General Hospital. She did not suffer any serious injuries, and is being treated for a minor injury to one of her hands. Her condition is described as stable. There were no other casualties.
Police and fire personnel are now concluding their work at the scene. Warrington Borough Council will continue to work with a structural engineer to assess the overall damage to the house.
