Getting married in the register office or approved premises

The register office has a very attractive ceremony room which can seat up to 30 guests.  

Please note, if you are getting married at Warrington Register Office but are giving notice of marriage in a different district, please ensure you give your place of marriage as 'The Ceremony Room, Warrington, Warrington Registration Office'. Please see below for more information on how to give notice of marriage.

For a list of approved wedding venues in Warrington, please contact the register office, or click on the link at the bottom of the page. Walton Hall and our Pyramid Arts Centre  also provide full ceremonial and wedding services. 

For these ceremonies a Notice of Marriage must be given. 

Getting married in a church

Church of England:
Please approach the vicar. It is not necessary to contact the register office.

Catholic, Methodist or other religious denomination:
A legal Notice of Marriage must be given. 

A legal Notice of Marriage

A legal Notice of Marriage must be completed by both the bride and groom to the superintendent registrar of the district in which you have lived for at least the previous nine days.

If you both live in Warrington your Notices will be given at Warrington Register Office. You can attend together or separately. Please telephone the register office to make an appointment on 442762.

If you live in different districts then the notices will be given in two separate areas.

After giving notice you must wait a further 15 clear days before the marriage can take place (i.e. if notice is given on 1 July the marriage can take place on or after 17 July).

Notice(s) can be given up to 12 months before the date of your wedding.

Documents you will need to produce:

  • your passport OR birth certificate
  • proof of address, for example your driving licence, utility bill, rent book, council tax document
  • if you have been married before, evidence to show how that marriage ended, for example decree absolute or if you have been widowed the death certificate of your husband or wife
  • if you have changed your name legally the relevant document to show this, for example your Deed Poll document.

Important points to note

Notice cannot be given by anyone else other than the bride and groom. If you are under 18 years old you may need the consent of your parents or guardians before you can be married. (Please telephone the register office for further information).

Fees

Notice of marriage or civil partnership (as of 1 April 2012) - £35.00 each

You will need to pay a fee to reserve your date, time and venue with the Registration Service. This fee is non-refundable and is not a deposit.

Any subsequent changes of date, time, or venue will be subject to another non-refundable reservation fee.

The current reservation fee is £25.00

Wedding or civil partnership at approved premises - From 1 April 2012 - 31 March 2013

  • Monday - Thursday £320.00
  • Friday and Saturday £345.00
  • Sunday £390.00

Wedding or civil partnership in the Ceremony Room at the Register Office - From 1 April 2012 - 31 March 2013:

  • Monday - Saturday £110.00
  • Sunday - Not available.

One copy of your marriage or civil partnership certificate: £4.00 (one copy included in above prices).

Please note, all ceremony bookings are subject to the discretion of the Superintendent Registrar. Though Warrington Register Office will always strive to accommodate your needs, not all days will be available for ceremonies. Please contact the Register Office on 01925 442762 for more information. Warrington Registration Service do not offer ceremonies on bank holidays at the Register Office or any other venue.

If your ceremony is taking place on or after 1 April 2013 you can contact the Register Office (01925 442762) from February 2013 for the latest fees.
