Landlord forum and self-regulation

Landlords

A healthy private rented sector provides additional housing choices for people who do not want to, or are not ready to, buy their own home.

We believe that most private landlords are basically well intentioned and anxious to do a good job. Furthermore we are aware that in order for landlords to raise their standards they need encouragement, support and education on best practice. For further information on private sector landlords association see the National Landlords Association, the Residential Landlords Association or the Association of Residential Letting Agents.

What is the landlord forum?

The landlord forum had its inaugural meeting in January 2002 and meets twice a year usually in March and September. It is open to attendance by all the borough’s landlords and provides an opportunity to spread awareness of the landlord’s legal obligations and good practice. It also provides the means for us to engage in two-way consultation with landlords on any related matters, including changes in policy.

Landlord newsletter

Twice a year, usually in December and June, a landlord newsletter is produced and sent to all known landlords and letting agents.  The newsletter provides topical information, such as changed to legislation or policies as well as advice on good practice.  View the Landlord_newsletter_July_2010.pdf.

Self regulation

Both the national trade bodies and locally based landlord’s associations provide invaluable support and information for their members. We actively encourage landlord self-regulation and have facilitated various initiatives to support and promote their good work.
