It is now over three years since the bigger blue bin scheme was introduced and over the last 12 months the amount of recyclable waste collected has rocketed!
Since its start, residents have recycled over 50,000 tonnes of waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill, which is a huge environmental saving and a great achievement - a big thanks to everyone!
The blue bin is emptied every two weeks.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to the recyclables?
All recyclables collected through this scheme are sorted at a nearby depot and then transported to UPM's Materials Recovery & Recycling Facility (MRF) at the UPM Shotton paper mill in Deeside 30 miles away.
The MRF is a brand new facility and it achieves some of the best recovery rates in the UK. 80 per cent of recyclables will travel only a few miles from the Shotton facility to be reprocessed into new products and 99 per cent of the materials stay in the UK.
At the MRF the material is loaded onto conveyor belt for sorting. This is done using a variety of specialist machinery including magnets and air jets. Once the materials are sorted into their different types they are bailed and sent off to be recycled into new items and products.
How does the MRF work?
Can we recycle polystyrene and bubble wrap in the blue bin?
Not at this time. This is due to the type of plastic these items are made out of and the MRF that we send the material to are currently unable to separate these items.
Can we recycle batteries in the blue bin?
We are unable to accept batteries in your blue bin. They can be recycled on any of the three community recycling centres.
Is it essential to crush cans and plastic bottles?
It is not essential, we recommend that cans and bottles are crushed when possible just to save space in your blue bin between collections.
Can we have a second blue bin?
For large families we now allow residents to order a second blue bin to help them recycle fully. Please call Contact Warrington on: 01925 443322
