Street lighting

The street lighting service provides and maintains the majority of the town’s 26,000 streetlights. We look after street furniture such as bollards and lit road signs.

Our main day-to-day work involves repairing any lights that have gone out (outages) and making safe any lights that have been knocked over or damaged in a dangerous way. We replace a number of street lights each year.

We also design and install new lighting and approve lighting schemes from private developments to ensure they meet modern standards. The street light network is regularly inspected to check lights are working and safe. We welcome any reports from the public on lights that don’t work or are damaged.
