The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) sets out the council's planning policies for guiding development and protecting the environment in the borough of Warrington until the year 2016. The UDP was prepared and progressed through procedures which gave everyone the right to comment on policies and proposals as they evolved and to have any objections considered by an independent inspector at a public inquiry.
The UDP was adopted by the council on 23 January 2006.
An interactive version of the UDP can be found here
In October 2007, as a result of a legal challenge by Satnam Millennium Ltd, the High Court ruled that the UDP Proposals Map should be quashed insofar as it shows the site known as Peel Hall Farm as included in the North Cheshire Green Belt. The status of the site will now be addressed in the Local Development Framework Core Strategy.
The policies in Warrington's UDP were automatically saved for three years from the documents adoption on 23 January 2006. An application was made to the Secretary of State to save a number of policies after this date to avoid a policy vacuum before Local Development Framework Development Plan Documents are adopted.
The Secretary of State's decision can be found here: Secretary_of_State's_decision.pdf. It includes a schedule of policies that will be saved beyond 23 January 2009. These policies will continue to be part of the Development Plan. Those policies not listed in the schedule will not be part of the Development Plan after 23 January 2009.
