Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) is Warrington’s central network management centre.
The council aims to keep Warrington roads moving by managing the road network, easing congestion and providing information to the travelling public.
Warrington Borough Council’s Urban Traffic Management Control Centre provides the facility of monitoring and managing traffic and is the hub for distribution of traffic information.
The UTMC system is a package of traffic management tools or Intelligent Transport systems (ITS) and data sources integrated within a central control system. The UTMC system offers enhanced traffic management and monitoring capabilities across the town, which all residents and visitors will benefit from.
UTMC monitor and manage traffic by:
- monitoring traffic flow
- monitoring congestion
- managing the authority’s traffic signals
- communicating traffic and travel information
UTMC manage and maintain a variety of intelligent transport systems (ITS). These include:
- CCTV cameras
- automatic number plate recognition cameras
- automatic traffic counters
- variable message signs
- car park guidance system
- air quality monitoring
- Real Time Passenger Information System
The UTMC control room is operational
- 7.30am to 6:30pm weekdays
- additional hours to cover special events and major road works
During these hours staff are available to deal with faults and network management issues.
Outside these hours faults are passed to Warrington out of hours call centre.
